Letters to Frank Reed from Single Parent Ministries:
Frank, our church - Richland Hills Church of Christ
in North Richland Hills has an outstanding ministry for Single Parents. Pam Willingham is our minister to single parent families. One of the distinquishing characteristics is that Pam sees herself as a family minister, not a singles minister - as the needs of single parents are so different. Thank you for your focus on Single parents this week. Blessings, Chris Hatchett www.rhchurch.org
I love your morning show. Thanks for recognizing singles parents this week. Although I am not one, I have many friends who are and I have much respect for them. I am part of the Singles Ministry at my church though and we have a sub-ministry for single parents. Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church
, located at 1808 W. Camp Wisdom Rd, Dallas 75232, has a thriving Single Parents Ministry. We have single parent small groups for men and women at different locations around the Metroplex that get together monthly for bible studies. We also have several events throughout the year specifically for single parents including Car Care Clinics and Parenting and Family Workshops. The contact info is Rev. Dr. Conway Edwards, Director of Singles, (214) 672-9100 x:2350.
Thanks again for your ministry and for listing our church and Single Parents Ministry on your website.

In response to your request for information on churches with an emphasis on singles, I would like to introduce you to New Vision Family Fellowship Church in Mesquite
. A group of us, just over a year ago, established a congregation with an emphasis on ministering to single adults, single parents, blended families, remarried couples as well as traditional families. We felt these groups represent a huge segment of today's households and that they did not feel welcome in many churches. We are currently meeting at 105 Broad Street on the Old Town Square in Mesquite. It is a long story, but this is our fifth location and we are seeking more space and hope to purchase property to build on soon.
Everyone is welcome to worship with us. Our strength lies in the fact we are a very diverse, open and non-judgmental congregation.
Was not sure how much info you required, but feel free to contact me if you need to know more about us. Our website is nvffc.com, however, it was redone last week and from what I understand there is still some work to be done to improve the site. Look forward to hearing from you. www.nvffc.com
Thanks for your interest.

Thanks and God Bless,
Good morning Frank,
I am a single mom and I attend Hope Fellowship in Frisco
located on Rolater Rd off of Preston Rd. They have a wonderful single mom's ministry that goes beyond what I could have ever imagined and it is open to all women, not just members of our church. They have Mother's Day banquet w/ childcare (where each woman received $100 spa gift card, makeup, perfume and other gifts), Christmas Banquet & ornament exchange (with childcare), Shopping Day in December with childcare, so we can shop for our children, meetings once a month at fun places (next Friday is bowling at Strikz in Frisco) and the list goes on. We have a Connections Pastor on staff that assists the women in the church along with a great new leader of the Single Mom's Group. This church has a strong passion for single mom's and it continues to grow.
I also want to tell you that they offer Divorce Care classes each year that is lead by the most awesome couple! I learned things I never knew I needed to know! And I want to thank you for all of the uplifting things and blessings that your station has not only given me but the rest of the listeners as well!
I serve and am blessed by a great God, am loved by family & friends and have been given a 2nd chance at the life I want for my son & I! God has also brought us the most Godly man to share our life with, who is far above what I ever could have imagined! www.hopefellowship.net
Thank you for allowing me to share,
I wanted to let you know of a great single parent ministry at Gateway Church
. The ministry is filled with encouragement and renewing hope to single parents. Some classes that are happening right now are "Striving to Thrive", "To Date or Not to Date", "The Holy Spirit", "Divorce Recovery for Kids", "Divorce Recovery", "Growing Kid's God's Way with the single parent supplement", "Emotional Fitness" and a "Crown Financial small group for single mom's". Other activities include a Christmas Party, Single Parent Vacation, and a Mother's day banquet.
We meet every first and third Monday for a dinner at 6:00 and fellowship at 7:00. This ministry has helped me with healing, finding strong Christian friends who encourage me and hold me accountable, and I have had LOTS of fun!Copied bio from the website:
The single parent family ministry wants the opportunity to embrace you and your children. No matter who you are we believe God has great things in store for you and your children. Our goal is to see you find the call that God has for your life, and do whatever it takes to help you achieve that call. We do this by offering weekly life groups for spiritual support. It is also a great time of fellowship, and a chance to make friends with people that have common interests.
Ministry is available in the areas of finances, parenting, and relationships that are specific to single parent families. We have a mentoring ministry that focuses on allowing your children a safe place to grow in their faith. Our heart is to see every single parent and their children fully restored with God and functioning as a light to their world. www.gatewaypeople.com
This is in response to your plea for churches involved in Single Parent programs. (I enjoyed what I heard from Dr. Leman.) The Community Enrichment Center www.thecec.org
here at North Richland Hills
has developed a Single Parent Family Network. This grew out of our already having housing programs for single parent homeless families, a transitional housing program for families fleeing domestic violence and a food pantry that we wanted to do more than just give out food.
The Single Parent Family Network meets each month at one of our Northeast Tarrant County partner churches. Richland Hills Church of Christ, NRH Baptist, 1st United Methodist Hurst, Wellspring Church, Cross Timbers Church, and looking to add Centerpoint Church and others. We began in January this year and have had from 30 to 70 single parents each month. Child care and a meal is provided and the sessions this year have been: parenting, Hope, employment/education, Mother's Day celebration, setting boundaries with children, emotional problems with children, Kids caught in the crossfire, and just family fun like bingo.
The CEC actually started this last December focusing our Christmas give out to single parent families. That will be our focus again this Christmas. This has been a blessing to so many as churches are joining together to reach out. Many of these families do not have a church home and others just want to build connections.
Thank you for your encouragement of participation from single parent families and from Churches. As I understand there are only 2 Single Parent Family Ministers in Tarrant County.
Pam Willingham at Richland Hills C of C and one at Gateway in Southlake.
I was listening to your program this morning, as I do every morning (love your show) and I heard you ask people who had phenomenal singles/single parents; groups to email you.
I am the Singles Director at Mesquite's First Assembly of God
and our singles group is called Solo Life Ministry. It's in the new development stages, but I know one day it will be a phenomenal ministry of God's unique design and purpose. I can tell you as a single parent myself, I have a love, passion and calling for this ministry and welcome the opportunity to be able to talk with anyone or minister to anyone, any way I can in this area. Any one you send our way, would be truly welcomed!
Thank you for always taking the time to address single parenting issues and needs. Love your show! www.mesquitefirstassembly.org

Good Morning Frank,
I want to first take this opportunity to send a HUGE THANK YOU to KLTY for ALL the support they have given to single parents. It just touches my heart to hear all the callers and friends/family of people supporting single parents. I am a member at Prestonwood Baptist Church
. I have been a member for many years, I am very active in the choir, Bible studies and mostly the Single Parent Network Class (SPN). We have two classes, one that meets on Saturday nights at 4:45, that is taught by a staff Minister, Michael Parron. He is a wonderful leader and is over one of the singles ministries of the church. He has such a heart for the single parents. On Sunday another class meets at 9:15 - really 9:30 since we are all single parents- that is taught by Klay Rogers. He also is a strong man of the Lord and is being used is great ways with his teaching. They both stand back and let the Lord lead their teaching and their lives. This ministry started in July 2006 and is growing. I love to sit and watch the Lord's hand bless the classes. HE works is such mighty ways!!! Our class web site is: singleparentsnetwork.org we offer a lot of events that are "kid friendly", we even had our own softball team. This class is focused on being an encouragement and support to every single parent. We have divorced, separated, widow, never married, and adopted parents. Our children get to play and spend time with each other, which is in a safe environment where the parents know one another. Our class is uplifting and God honoring. Frank, I just can not say enough about this class and how important it is to be "plugged in" to a church fellowship like this. Single parenting is the hardest job, and we do not need to feel like we are alone. I encourage anyone who does not have a church home to come visit us and see for themselves. Thank you again for all the support from KLTY!!! My kitchen radio does not change stations and NEVER gets turned off!!! May the Lord Bless you and your family and everyone at KLTY! Kathy Menger, Prayer leader for SPN - Prestonwood Baptist Church.

I attend Watermark Community Church
and we have a great single parent ministry headed by a couple Wes and Brandy Butler.
Every month there are outings for just the parents, with childcare provided or reimbursement for childcare and also every other month there is an outing which includes the kids. Most activities are free or subsidized by the church or if there is a cost, scholarships are available. They encourage everyone to not let money get in the way.
They meet twice a month at a Bible study on Wednesday nights and again childcare is provided.
Our Single Parent Ministry has planned an outing to Pine Cove the first weekend in December with a cost of $15 per person, for parents and children kindergarten and up, this is lodging and food.
The web address for Watermark is www.watermark.org
Thanks, Diana Ford

I'm a single parent and have been connected very well at my church in Plano. Fellowship Bible Church North
-- Pastor Jeff Jones, 850 Lexington Drive, Plano, TX 75075
We are currently building a new facility on 75 & Legacy, right next to the movie theater. For the single mom, once per month is a fellowship called "Oasis" where single moms can get support with life lessons and fellowship. We have a very active singles ministry (including single parents) and beginning in January, there will be a Life Group (our Sunday School, meets twice per month) starting just for single parents. www.fbcnorth.org
Thanks to KLTY for the programming.
Our church offers a Single Parent Action Network (SPAN). It is designed to help parents with finances, moral support, and other topics. There are activities for the children while the parents listen to a speaker on a particular topic. My church is First United Methodist Church of Richardson
on Arapaho and Central Expressway. I'm not sure how active our single parents group is in our church, as I am not affiliated with that area. But SPAN has been a great help to the parents. There is also a free dinner provided to the parents and kids. www.fumcr.com
In His love,
I attend Covenant Church in Carrollton
. We have a great single’s service on Monday nights. Pastor Michael Rowan is awesome! The services are even online at www.elementsingles.org
____________________________________________________________________Watermark Community Church
in Richardson has an awesome division for single parent families. They not only take care of the parents but address issues for the children as well. Wes Butler is head of the Single Parents Ministry. He does an awesome job. They really focus on the single parent family in its entirety as a unit, not just the parent. If you get a chance, I think they deserve some real airtime. They have meant more to me as a single mom than I could ever express!!
Blessings Frank! I love your program! You guys are such a blessing to me in the morning! Perry Rocks!!!!!! www.watermark.org

Frank, I attend Saturn Road Church of Christ
, located in Garland Texas. I was listening to your program this morning and heard your comments about finding programs for these single Parents to be involved in. Dr. Leman was absolutely correct in his statement that we as a church have been neglecting single parents. Not intentionally of course, but churches are so family oriented that the single parent often gets left out. We at Saturn Road are trying to address this issue. We have started a Wednesday night class for single parents. Ironically, we are using the video series, Effective Single Parenting That Works, by Dr. Kevin Leman. We only have 2 lessons left on this video series but will be starting another afterwards, Raising Boys to be Boys. If you have anyone interested in getting connected or would like to help us in our mission, please have them contact Ron Patterson or me at the number below. We would love to have them. Thank you for your work Jeff. www.saturnroad.org

I lead a great single mom support group every Wednesday night at the Garden Ridge Church of Christ in Lewisville
. It's a wonderful group of women, some are newly single and others are more experienced and very encouraging and knowledgable. This group helps each other out daily!
We start at 7:00 pm but our church eats dinner together every Wednesday beginning at 5:30. And it's great for single moms because dinner is free for them! And there are classes for kids of ALL ages for the whole time we're are in group! Our motto is: Come learn, lean and laugh with us!

Several folks told me to contact you about what we have for single parent ministry. I guess Frank Reed had asked for that. I am the pastor to our single parents. We have a "One Parent plus Kids" 10 week program that gives kids and parents healing from divorce or an absent parent. We do it twice a year. We have a once a month "Kids Night Out" where we have the kids for 3 hours while our sinlge parents get some much needed time away. During this we have a spiritual message and always lots of fun. This months event is IBC Idol night. The kids will be puttin on different acts, dancing, joke telling, karaoke and a lot more. Last month it was retro dance night. We have a Car Ministry where we give away 30 or so cars a year as well as having repair events each month. Our On Track Bible Community class meets on Sundays. The current series is Parenting Credo- what your kids need from you. In evertying we do, we pull in people from the community who may not ever enter a church, but they need help for their family. This is kingdom work. Our Community Carnival in May is a big monster event for the single parents out in our community. www.irvingbible.org
Pastor to single parent families Irving Bible Church
My wife, Pam, and I attend Sunnyvale First Baptist Church
. We have been working with Single Parents for approximately 3 years and have been truly blessed by them during that time. The Single Parent community is one that is generally pushed off to the side and forgotten about by the traditional church because “they aren’t Single and they aren’t Married so we don’t know where to put them”. They don’t fit into the Singles Group because they have children and they don’t fit into the Married groups because they don’t have a mate. I have actually had a pastor tell me “we just don’t feel comfortable going in that direction and ministering to those people”. I thank God daily that Sunnyvale First Baptist Church is not one of those churches. According to the US Census Bureau, 16.9% of the 12.7 million Single Parent Families in the US live in Texas. That is approximately 2.1 million Single Parent Families. According to the United Way of Dallas, 1 in 4 of those 2.1 million Single Parent Families live in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. That equates to over 536,000 Single Parent Families living in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. With the steady increase of the Single Parent Family unit not only in the Dallas/Ft Worth area but nationwide, the specific need for a ministry for Single Parent Families is tremendous. After attending the SPFM Conference in Granbury, we felt God leading us to host an event like that with the focus being how to help the Single Parent raise their child in a godly manner or – “TRAINING MY CHILD IN THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO”. The bible tells us to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it (Proverbs 22:6)”. We believe the Single Parent Families in Dallas County need help with this – from the basics on up. We have chosen an outstanding Keynote Speaker from the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex that (1) has a heart for Single Parent Families, (2) is a Single Parent and knows first hand the specific situations that Single parents go through, (3) desires to help pull together the Single Parent Family community and show them that they are not alone and (4) is not PREACHY. We want this to be a Christian event, but not a revival. We believe that we must meet the "immediate" needs before they will be open to getting their "spiritual" needs met. We also know that Single Parents have Single Incomes so this event will be as inexpensive as possible - $20 for parent, $15 for Teen, $10 for child or THE BEST VALUE OF $30 for family. Childcare will be provided for a pre-registered $10 deposit per child, with a full refund after the parent picks up their child after the conference. Pre-registration ends March 4th, 2007. Please know that money will be made available for those in need. We do not want someone missing a valuable opportunity just because they cannot afford this, or think they cannot. As I said before, Thanks for your time and you ministry. We have been touched numerous times by your heart for the Single Parent Family community. You are truly a blessing for the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. If you want to pass this around, we would truly appreciate as much input as possible. Specifically we are asking for prayer. This event can only be successful if God is placed in the center of it. We ask that you pray that God will produce a mighty fruit from this event, even if it is just in one life. Above all else, we need your prayers to ensure that this event is God honored. The Single Parent families in the metroplex need an event like this. Thank you for your help and keep doing what you’re doing. Please visit us at www.sunnyvalefbc.com
