Exhibit opens Saturday, October 6, 2012 Ends Saturday, October 27, 2012 BRIT Exhibit Hall The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT®) presents Views from the Yucatán: A Maya World, a display of photos taken by children of the Maya-speaking village of Yaxunah in the state of Yucatán, México. The exhibit opens October 6 and runs through October 27. Admission is free. The exhibit’s photos are snap-shots of daily life in the small Mexican village through the eyes of its young inhabitants. The children were taught photography by Becky Watson and Dr. Grace Lloyd Bascopé, in conjunction with the Maya Research Program. Watson, an acclaimed photographer, put together an experiential educational program teaching the Maya children English and photography. Dr. Bascopé has spent many years doing research and development work in the Maya region of México. Now retired from university life, she is the director of México Projects for Maya Research Program, and is a research associate at BRIT. The exhibit highlights the children’s use of light versus shadow as well as composition in their photos and will feature additional work from both Ms. Watson and Dr. Bascopé. ### BRIT hours: Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. For general information, call 817.332.4441.
